Junior Premier Championship – Group 4 Rnd 2
Emmets 3-07 V Ballymac 1-17

Report by David Noonan

Last Saturday evening our seniors made the trip to Ballymac for their second game of the Junior Premier Championship. It was a must win game knowing a loss would put them out of contention in Group 4. Ballymac opened the scoring with a good solo run from Dara Keane who split the posts with ease. Listowel than got a point of their own through a super effort from David Keane. Seven minutes into the game Noel Kennelly had a good one-on-one chance but Padraig Laide pulled off a great save to keep Ballymac in front. Emmets got a foothold on proceedings shortly after and rolled off three points on the trot by Eddie Browne, David Keane and a 45 from Jamie Barry.

Ballymac than hit back with points from Aidan Breen, TJ Casey, and Darragh Regan. Both sides were going for it now and with conditions difficult to handle the game was messy enough at times. Just before half time Listowel got a goal with a strike from Bryan Sweeney. The teams were going in at half time all square 1-5 to 0-8Ballymac started the second half the strongest with four points in a row. They then got a goal when Aidan Breen slipped through the Listowel defence and buried the ball past Keith Hughes. Emmets had an uphill battle from here and were given a lifeline from Noel Kennelly who received a great  ball from Darragh Leahy for a cracking goal. In the last minute of play Listowel got another consolation goal when a scrambled ball went into the square and Niall Collins got on the end of it.
