County Senior League Div 2 – Round 3
Emmets 0-10 Milltown/Castlemaine 5-11

In what was literally a game of two halves it was the away side who picked up the two the points as they fired five second half goals in which Emmets had no response. Listowel went in at half-time a point to the good and pit themselves in a good position as they defended well and were accurate in front of goal throughout, with scores coming from David Keane, Lorcan Moloney and four from Conor Cox, three of which were from play. While Emmets were the better team in the first half Milltown/Castlemaine stayed in touch through some good scores from Cathal Moriarty and Jamie O’Shea and this gave them a good base to launch their clinical second half in front of goal.

Half-time score: Emmets 0-06 Milltown/Castlemaine 0-05

The away side had the perfect start after the break and hit 1-03 without reply before Conor Cox scored his fifth of the afternoon and it was hoped that this might settle Emmets down. The visitors had different ideas though and were picking up all the breaks around the middle. Listowel tried hard and Noel Kennelly definitely made an impact when brought out to midfield to try and steady the ship but on this occasion it had already left the port as two goals from Shane Murphy and Cathal Moriarty sealed the deal for Milltown/Castlemaine. Emmets will be disappointed that they didn’t execute two or three goal opportunities themselves as Kennelly, Maurice Whelan and David Keane all went close but couldn’t raise the green flag which ultimately was the difference on the day.
