The inaugural Emmets GAA Golf Society had its first outing in Ballyheigue on Saturday 13th May and a great day was had by all with 30 golfers taking part. Some wonderful golf was played in what sometimes became trying conditions with Cormac Mulvihill bringing in a wonderful score of 40 points off 16. Paddy Brosnan was second with 35 points off 19 while Mike Barry was third with 33 points off 10 (beating captain Seán Carey on a count back).
Shay Downes won the front 9 with 17 and Christy Walsh won the back 9 with 17 (again defeating captain Seán Carey and event co-organiser Kevin Enright on a count back). Brian Mulvihill won a Ballyheigue Golf Club jumper, kindly donated by Tim in the Golf Club for his exceptional score. The 4 ball from Ballyheigue Golf Club was presented by the captain Seán Carey to the four ladies who played on the day ……for what he said was the colour and comraderie they offered to the day, in addition, of course, to their quality golf.
Prize giving was held in Christys The Well on Saturday evening and the photographs below taken by Kim Healy and Denis Walsh show the pride and delight of the prize winners. However, the big winner on the day was Listowel Emmets GAA Club with the setting up of its first ever golf society. Next outing is in Killorglin on July 29th so please contact Captain Seán Carey or any of his committee members if you would like to join the society. It remains open for membership to Emmets Club members and non members, GUI members and non members, men and ladies.
