The Listowel Emmets GAA Golf Society had its second outing in Killorglin on Saturday 29th July and another great day was had by all. Some wonderful golf was played on a beautiful course with the backdrop of the Laune on one side and the mountains on the other on what was unexpectedly a superb day with the sun shining. The winning score this time was from Corkman John Maguire bringing in a wonderful score of 42 points off 21. John said in his victory speech that this was the first ‘Major’ he had won since the current president of Listowel Emmets Golf Society, John Molyneaux was president of Ballybunion Golf Club way back in 1993.
His increased practice since his retirement is beginning to pay dividends at last. He thanked his playing partners John Looney and Mike Barry (Snr) for the ongoing encouragement and support. Judy Carmody won the ladies with a score of 33 points off 36.
Prize giving was held in Christy’s The Well on Saturday evening and the photographs below taken by Colman O’ Flaherty show the pride and delight of the prize winners. However, once again the big winner on the day was Listowel Emmets GAA Club with great numbers attending. Next outing is in Newcastlewest (Ardagh) on October 17th so please contact Captain Seán Carey or any of his committee members if you would like to join the society. It remains open for membership to Emmets GAA Club members and non-members, GUI members and non-members, men and ladies.
